چکیده
19 Renal artery stenosis is the main cause of renovascular hypertension and results in 20 ischemic nephropathy characterized by inflammation, oxidative stress, microvascular 21 loss and fibrosis with consequent functional failure. Considering the limited number of 22 strategies that effectively control renovascular hypertension and restore renal function, 23 we propose that cell therapy may be a promising option based on the regenerative and 24 immunosuppressive properties of stem cells.. This review addresses the effects of 25 mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) in an experimental animal model of renovascular 26 hypertension known as 2 kidney-1 clip (2K-1C). Significant benefits of MSC treatment 27 have been observed on blood pressure and renal structure of the stenotic kidney. The 28 mechanisms involved are discussed. 29 30 3

Renal responses to acute reflex activation of renal sympathetic nerve activity and renal denervation in secondary hypertension.
We tested whether the responsiveness of the kidney to basal renal sympathetic nerve activity (RSNA) or hypoxia-induced reflex increases in RSNA, is enhanced in angiotensin-dependent hypertension in rabbits. Mean arterial pressure, measured in conscious rabbits, was similarly increased (+16 +/- 3 mmHg) 4 wk after clipping the left (n = 6) or right (n = 5) renal artery or commencing a subcutaneou...
متن کاملBrain amiloride-sensitive Phe-Met-Arg-Phe-NH(2)--gated Na(+) channels and Na(+)-induced sympathoexcitation and hypertension.
Dietary and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) Na(+) may act through brain amiloride-sensitive, Phe-Met-Arg-Phe-NH(2) (FMRFamide)-gated Na(+) channels (FaNaChs) to cause sympathoexcitation and hypertension. We hypothesized that FaNaChs cause sympathoexcitation via the activation of brain "ouabain" and the brain renin-angiotensin system. In conscious Wistar rats, intracerebroventricular (ICV) infusion of...
متن کاملSodium intake influences hemodynamic and neural responses to angiotensin receptor blockade in rostral ventrolateral medulla.
To determine the effects of physiological alterations in endogenous angiotensin II activity on basal renal sympathetic nerve activity (RSNA) and its arterial baroreflex regulation, angiotensin II type 1 receptor antagonists were microinjected into the rostral ventrolateral medulla of anesthetized rats consuming a low, normal, or high sodium diet that were instrumented for simultaneous measureme...
متن کاملA mathematical model of long-term renal sympathetic nerve activity inhibition during an increase in sodium intake.
It is well known that renal nerves directly affect renal vascular resistance, tubular sodium reabsorption, and renin secretion. Inhibition of renal sympathetic nerve activity (RSNA) decreases renal vascular resistance, tubular sodium reabsorption, and renin secretion, leading to an increase in sodium excretion. Although several studies show that inhibition of RSNA promotes sodium excretion duri...
متن کاملPotentiated sympathetic nervous and renin-angiotensin systems reduce nonlinear correlation between sympathetic activity and blood pressure in conscious spontaneously hypertensive rats.
BACKGROUND Patients with a reduced nonlinear component of heart rate regulation have a poorer outcome. METHODS AND RESULTS We investigated whether a nonlinear correlation between renal sympathetic nerve activity (RSNA) and blood pressure or renal blood flow is reduced in conscious, spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR) by comparing them with normotensive Wistar-Kyoto rats (WKY). We also deter...
